Over 36 hours in the Big Apple we are inviting you, the best East Coast developer, designer, and entrepreneurial minds to build solutions to customize insurance plans, leverage data from IoT, and help insurance agencies advise those affected by natural disasters.

Challenge

Develop a solution that will enhance the products or service offerings of insurance companies
to help better serve their customers in one of the below challenge tracks.

Tracks:

Custom Coverage Challenge:

Help companies customize their insurance plans using open source data! Some examples of relevant data could be:

  • Location
  • Customer demographic
  • Risk profiles of owners

Disaster Relief Challenge:

Build disaster relief insurance solutions to help homeowners / businesses better recover from a disaster

  • Examples:
    Storing home insurance, mortgage documents, or proof of insurance on a blockchain

IoT Challenge:

Create a solution that will help insurance companies make more precise decisions by utilizing data from IoT devices

  • Examples: home telematics (see www.getroost.com) that help insurance policyholders to mitigate the cost and hassle of fire, smoke and water leak related claims.

Judging Criteria

Judging will have two rounds, each with a live presentation format without slides or pitch decks.
Round 1: Teams are grouped into their challenges and pitch.
Round 2: The top 2 from each challenge pitch in our final round on stage.

Each submission will be scored in each round based on the following criteria with a minimum score of 0 and maximum score of 20 points, with the final score being the average of the judges’ scores:

Simplicity (5 points):

Is the application simple to use and can the team explain it clearly in three sentences or less?

Colin’s current work focuses on digital transformation within the insurance industry, helping customers move to a customer centric model that builds life-long, profitable relationships.

Executive Director of EY’s Insurance Operations

Steve has significant experience and success planning, managing and delivering transformational change programs that: create realistic but aggressive business and IT strategies and goals; build the needed organizational, operational and technological capabilities; define multi-year integrated program and project plans.

Rules

Teams of up to 5 participants are allowed. All team members must have completed the participation agreement to compete.
You may not begin your project until the competition officially begins. Please don't come in and build on top of previous projects if you want to win.
Winning teams will be subject to a code-review at some point following the event or immediately before winning.
